Hell Bird Site - Take Over in Question?

I still want Hell Bird Site to go away, but I also don't want M*sk to own it.

Hell Bird Site - Take Over in Question?

@scully I feel like Musk owning Bird Site will hasten its demise.

Hell Bird Site - Take Over in Question?

@chrisod I don’t think people will give up on bird site because FOMO is real. They will continue to let the water boil until there is no escape because “my friends are there”

Hell Bird Site - Take Over in Question?

@scully This article from a few years ago made an impression on me. Social media is actually a terrible way to stay in touch with friends. If I took a two week break from Twitter, FB, etc. starting tomorrow I am 100% sure nobody would notice.

Hell Bird Site - Take Over in Question?

@chrisod I quit FB 2 years ago. Before I left I made a post on the various ways my thousands of “friends” could keep in touch with me. Hundreds commented. Not a single person has followed through.

Has been hard on my MH over the years especially as I have a need to be liked. :)

@scully @chrisod

Good on you for quitting the bad site. You can be liked over here! 😃

Hell Bird Site - Take Over in Question?

@chrisod I assume you saw that Jason is taking a 5-month break?

Hell Bird Site - Take Over in Question?

@scully Yeah, I did. I do think social has kind of peaked. People are realizing how little value it adds to life. I still have a FB account but I unfollowed every single person, so I have no FB wall. When I feel like it I'll click thru to friends profiles and see what they are up to. Turns out their vacation photos are just as enjoyable 3 weeks after the trip.

Hell Bird Site - Take Over in Question?

@chrisod I couldn't keep an account because I feel that just participating is harmful. The way they collect data even if I lock my own account down the actions of friends -- tagging etc -- opens me up to privacy violations.

@scully Hopefully something like this can happen and then we get the best of both.
Although I do agree with you that most people won't abandon the platform like they did with Tumblr.
