Excited to learn today that I visited an exposure site just 5 hours before it became one.

My bandwidth is terrible out here so can't test this link but here you go anyway:

Regional dialect issues are very real. Got blank looks recently when I used the phrase "Dan's presser" and had to translate.

If at first you don't succeed, redefine success!

Since it seems I'm not going to make it to the northernmost point, hello from 12 metres below sea level, the lowest point in Australia.

I'd like you all to know how hard it was for me not to carve "NO FATE" into this table.

I got some fantastic photos along the old Ghan line this morning, but I can't share anything until I have some civilised internet again.

You don't want to know how long I did in the sun in one specific spot where I had enough signal to upload a photo, just to make this dumb joke.

Having lunch at the historic Farina bakery. You've probably never heard of it.

Camped out at Farina tonight, no signal at the camp, so time to catch up on some reading. 😁

There's the promise of some old railway infrastructure tomorrow.

I guess I am now committed to moving on tomorrow, as I just threw my faithful fire-poking stick onto the fire.

Melbourne, we got this. We're all in it together! Solidarity!

Oh, I don't mean literally in it together, of course. I'm camped out over 1500km away and I'm not coming back until this all blows over.

I'm kind of eager to rewatch that because I'm sure I spotted a Commodore 64 in there. It's like they made that film for me.

Also it comes so hilariously close to passing the Bechdel test that I honestly believe they were fully aware of this and deliberately sabotaged it just to fuck with people.

I guess my plans to go see F9 in the cinema again are a bit fucked now.

Tell you what, that $40 leather jacket I bought at Savers a couple of months ago has really fucking earned its keep in this trip. When the sun goes down it gets cold fast out here.

Camp cooking tip: wash your mug before making a cup-a-soup if you previously had a Berocca in it.

I think I'll invest in a second mug for my next trip. Why not live it up?

Here's a self hosted sphere. It's not perfect though, this view treats it as a 360 degree panorama, not a sphere. The perspective goes all wonky if you pan up and down. Still, getting there. I'll look into this stuff in more detail when I'm home.

I'm having a great time out here but the short days and huge temperature drops at night are annoying. They were supposed to be a small inconvenience on my way to warmer lands, not a constant problem, heh

Having a serious think now about pulling the plug and coming home early - not directly but cutting down maybe a 4 week window to 2 weeks. Provided Melbourne comes out of lockdown as planned.

Putting more than one state border between me and home is starting to feel super risky.

I could save a lot of money by pulling back a bit and maybe do the more direct route North via the East coast later in the year.

"From 1am AEST Saturday 17 July 2021, all of Victoria will be a declared COVID-19 hotspot."

Well, Queensland is now closed to me - at least until I've been out of Victoria for 14 days.

Going to stay camped here at Arkaroola for another night and come up with a plan.

I live in South East London with my wife and (currently) 2 of our 3 children.

I spend most of my time listening to podcasts, reading, recording audio, writing music, discovering new local walks, and facilitating meditation classes.
