In lieu of being able to have our usual end-of-financial-year party, work sent us out a package of goodies. You could choose from an ice cream maker, projector, uh, and a one or two other things I forget. I got the ice cream maker and it arrived today!

Oh there was also a tub of microwaveable hot chocolate fudge that I forgot to show as well.

We got the ice cream started this morning, only used a third of the mix and that ended up filling up almost the entirety of the ice cream maker's bowl. Had some now with the hot fudge and sprinkles, and I'm honestly impressed at how delicious it is! It really tasted exactly like the ice cream you'd buy at the shops.

@virtualwolf I really need to get a good ice cream setup going, because my favourite ice cream in the world only exists when I make it. Might have to do some research ... :awesome:

@mike Yassss. I can't recommend our ice cream maker because I have no idea what brand it is, haha. There's zero branding, and work clearly bought a big batch of them from the US because they had to include not only a US-to-AU power plug adapter but also a 110V to 230V transformer because the thing doesn't even work at anything but 110V.

I feel like an ice cream maker is the sort of thing Breville would probably have one of, we've always had good luck with their stuff.

@virtualwolf yeah I've had a no-brand one in the past but I think it's time to kick it up a level now I've sold my soul to the corporate world. Might as well have something nice to show for it. 😀

@mike Hell yes!

This was was also US-made ice cream mix too because the instructions say to use "heavy cream" (which as far as I can tell is just regular cream here) and "half-and-half" (which is some weird US thing that's half milk and half cream but they make and sell it as its own thing that people put in their coffee??).

A friend of ours said they've got some good fully home-made mix recipes, so we'll definitely be trying that once we get through this lot of mix.

@virtualwolf one thing I heartily recommend is some coconut cream based stuff. Do some experiments because it comes with an amazing flavour to start with and really sets off things like the more tart fruits super well - plus it's always great to have a couple of non-dairy options up your sleeve if you're catering for friends.

That's assuming you like coconut to start with of course. If not, never mind!
