Currently having a little internal debate about whether Mad Max counts as a "Melbourne movie". I mean, I'm not busy looking for Melbourne productions, but films set in and around the city. While Mad Max is identifiability Melbourne in my places, I don't think it's definitively set anywhere specific, is it?
It's been so long since I've watched it, but I do recall they jumped around all over the place and into the country all the time.
i expect you've already done "Death in Brunswick".
@Nikolai_Kingsley my list so far more or less:
Death in Brunswick
Dogs in Space
Holidays on the River Yarra
Plenty more filmed in and around the place, but specially looking for movies set here.
@Nikolai_Kingsley also, I need to rewatch Spotswood. It's named for the suburb and filmed there but I'm not 100% sure it's really definitively set there. It was renamed for overseas I think.
@mike @Nikolai_Kingsley Wikipedia has the goods https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_films_shot_in_Melbourne
@mike I'd have to rewatch it. It's been too many years since I last saw it to tell where it was. But yeah, I don't think it was purposely set anywhere.
@mike yeah it's pretty nonspecific in most of its locations
@mike Nah, not a Melbourne movie. But it does feature the hospital I was born in, and was made the same year I arrived in it.
@pelagikat I love the police HQ at the (now) Scienceworks museum, I think it was still just a disused sewage pumping station at the time of filming.
@mike sounds like you need to watch Smoke 'em if you got 'em, it's on youtube last time I checked
@mike Most of the outback stuff was filmed near Silverton/Broken Hill. There's a replica of it at the Silverton Hotel. Or there was, last time I was there 10+ years ago.
@rjt Oh, good work! Another one I remembered late last night is "I Live with Me Dad" which I've actually never seen, but I remember the trailer for it seemed to be on every bloody VHS rental at one point in time - which kinda makes it odd that it's nowhere to be found on YouTube.
Only found it in this collection of previews, at around 12:45 -
My god we used to have to fast forward through a lot of shit.
@mike oh! i remember that preview!
@rjt yeah it felt like it was on every Australian movie tape for a while there.
