My old netbook is now so old and underpowered it won't run the latest versions of PureOS or Tails. In fact, it's finding newest Linux Mint hard to handle. 😒
So I'll try installing Bodhi.
#Environment: the massive collapse of insect populations is a bad omen, but barely reported https://www.counterpunch.org/2017/12/26/the-menacing-insect-omen/

RE the #Apple store in Fed Square in #Melbourne, someone on birdsite pointed out that, since it's going to displace Koori Heritage Trust, it's a perfect analogy for colonialism+capitalism: foreign corporation invading public space to create a business replacing indigenous history.
@piecritic Guardian reports "An Australian man has been stabbed to death in the Swedish city of Gothenburg."
I truly hope that you're okay (or at least not-dead)
But as much as IT has come a long way (faster, easier to use, &c), privacy and security have become infinitely more complex and difficult if not virtually impossible.
So much "business" now seems to be driven by surveillance capitalism and the state is now hugely more invasive and authoritarian.
I've now shelled out for a new laptop and spent 2 days reinstalling and configuring all my SW.
IT has come a long way in 12 years: it cost me 1/3 to get a machine 4x faster.
So my laptop died last week. 😞
I can't really complain: I got it (HP dv6500) in 2005 (!) and, after I upgraded from Win Vista (the *worst* OS) to Win 7->8->10, it ran all the SW I needed: Stata, MLwiN, ArcGIS, QGIS, R+Studio, SQL Server, all MS SW, MusicBee, Audacity, VLC, &c.
But I will migrate to this instance (when I'm home at my computer - it's difficult to do so on my 'phone).
My problem has been:
a) I've come from bird site which I used as a curated source of journalism & information so I was largely passive; I had nothing to say.
b) I'm essentially introverted and shy; I tend not to say much, especially in crowds.
c) I don't really understand the point of social media; I don't have a sense of self-importance to believe that my opinion is worth expressing publicly.
Okay, so I'm gonna make a concerted effort on this instance to toot more regularly.
